Construction on the Canberra MRT Station on the North-South Line will start in the middle of this year after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded the S$90 million construction contract to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Singapore).
Residents of The Brownstone EC and Signature At Yishun EC (executive condo) will benefit from the completion of the station as they would not have to take a bus to Sembawang or Yishun to take the MRT, saving up to 10 minutes of travel time for those going towards the city centre or Jurong East. Nearby residents at Skypark Residences will also have an alternative station to take the MRT.
Canberra station is located between Sembawang and Yishun stations along Canberra Link. When it opens in 2019, the station will serve commuters living in nearby estates such as Sembawang Springs, as well as upcoming public and private residential developments in the area, the LTA said.
